Update

Where to begin? Cam's been doing so much new stuff and we've been lazy about blogging.

Cam's now drinking from a cup. He really didn't like sippy cups so he just went to full-on cups. He holds them himself and has figured out how to tip them back and drink it all. He rarely spills. His eating skills in general have improved and most foods go straight to his mouth instead of elsewhere. He's eating chopped up hotdogs, buttered toast, yogurt, bacon-cheddar cheese spread on crackers, whole milk with cream added, handfulls of mandarin orange slices, frozen peas, green beans, lots and lots of Mac & Cheese (with cheese spread added for extra fat.) Did I mention he eats a lot of cheese? He has a bag of cheese curds in the fridge. To digest all of this he's up to 7 enzymes per meal. I did a little math just the other day and at this rate he will go though about 16,000 pills per year.

Just this weekend we discovered a new talent. He can push the step stool over to the sink, climb up, stand on his tippy-toes, turn on the water and then splash around and "wash" his hands. Woah. Here's the photographic evidence.

Unfortunately, he can only reach the hot water so we have to watch out for that.

Cam has also vastly increased his language comprehension. He understands an incredible amount of what we say to him. In his book he can point out animals such as, point to the pig. He can even reason a little and learn on the spot with a new book. If you show him an animal and tell him what it is on one page then he can point out that same animal on another page when you ask him.

Speaking of books, this kid is book crazy. If he had his way we would probably read all day. He goes to the bookshelf in his room and picks out which book he wants to read. He then brings it to you and puts it in your lap. He's happy to read a dozen books in a sitting. He knows all the books by their covers. He goes on sprees where he prefers one book over another but in general he likes Hop on Pop, The Cat in the Hat, The Snowy Day, Fox in Socks, The Dog Book, Walter the Farting Dog, Seven Little Rabbits, Pajama Time, The Barnyard Dance, Drummer Hoff, The Nursery Rhyme Book, The Magic Key Bus something or other and a book called The Brave Penguin that both Chelsey and I prety much find an abomination. I think I'll do a post just about this horrible little book and detail the many sins it commits. Camden likes it though so it stays.

He's really into some of the toys uncle Erik gave him this year. He likes his Norsk blocks and he is stacking them himself. His record is a five block stack though they usually don't make it past two high since knocking them down is more fun than building them up at this point. He's also a big fan of his Rody which is in the last picture of the previous post.

Cam had a big day on Friday as he went in for a casting photo shoot with Target. Target has picked Cystic Fibrosis as one of their causes for the year and so they put out a call for kids though their special needs casting dept. We sent in a snapshot of Camden and he was one of the kid they picked to come in for the first round of casting. Basically they want to see the kids in person and see how easy it is to get them to smile, do they freak out in the studio, etc. They also want to compare photos all taken by the same photographer under the same conditions so they can make a choice. The whole thing was really quick since they only really need one good photo. I guess now we'll wait and see what happens. It was fun for him to get out of the house and see someplace new.

Speaking of some place new, we went to Como Zoo yesterday and checked out the Tropical Encounters exhibit. It was really nice to go somewhere warm and let him explore. My camera fogged up immediately since the rainforest is kept pretty darn near 100% humidity. I did manage to get a couple of shots. He was very intersted in the fish, of course. Fish is one of the words he can say and he loves to check out the fish in our aquarium every day.

He also enjoyed just touching plants and exploring.

We also checked out the primate house and the aquatic animal buildings before he got tired and we headed home. It is so cool to live to close to the zoo. Como is also much more affordable than the Minnesota Zoo and there is plenty to see. Here are two photos of him checking out Sparky's winter digs. We'll have to come back in the summer to see the show.

Cam's also dancing a bit more. For some reason he really likes the song "Do you like pancakes?" He dances and clicks his tongue whenever he hears it. I've embedded it for your enjoyment.
