Standing Tall

Is this blog post about me?

Camden changes daily and he's a delight. He's really crawling now and spends much of the day on the floor exploring. He's really into in and takes every opportunity to use objects to help lift himself up to standing. He loves to stand. He's always really been into standing though, pretty much since the very early days he loved to put weight on his feet and try to stand. Now, he's really doing it. I swear he'll be walking all on his own well before his birthday in November. He already walks around holding our hands. We've noticed he's experimenting with how long he can stand up without holding onto anything. A week ago his record was about 5 seconds. He's now pushing 15 to 20 seconds at his best. Today he stood balanced without holding onto anything for about 10 seconds and then fell but not because he lost his balance per se, he just really wanted to bounce up and down while he was standing and so far mixing free standing and dancing is not a good combo.

I should also clarify that the stairs he crawls up at my parents house are half height steps and so they are just the right height for him to bring his knees up to the next step. Whereas last week he struggled to coordinate the movements, today when we were there he pretty much just flew up them. It is so impressive how fast he can figure things out. We need to get some baby gates up pretty soon. He won' t like them though. When he's crawling he wants to get everywhere he can see and he'll get upset if you close an open door he was headed for. Let's call it a spirit of adventure.

Cam spent Saturday night at Grandma and Grandpa Mona's so we could celebrate Chelsey's 31 birthday. We really didn't get to have a party for her last year so we had fun. We set up the projector in the yard and watched a movie with friends. We also set up a photo booth inside and everyone had a great time. Thank you so much for taking him! We needed a break and we feel totally refreshed. We both missed him when we went out for breakfast though. They had kid placemats with crayons and we both thought about how much fun we can have going out for breakfast together someday in the near future.

Before grandma picked him up on Saturday he was playing with the Greatest Dog on EarthTM, Odin. He is super patient with Cam as he gets crawled over and climbed on. Camden loves when Odin comes into the room and he is equally fond of the cats. The cats have been surprisingly tolerant of Camden and he has yet to get a good scratch for pulling their hair. Both of our cats are fully clawed and they will let you know if you are annoying them so we've been real lucky so far. Camden may not be as fascinated with them once he receives his first scar. I have plenty (thank you Simon and Jax.) Jax seems more interested in Camden than Simon.

Kim witnessed an interesting bit of problem solving on Cam's part this week. He was playing with one of his soft blocks and decided he wanted to crawl across the room. He soon realized he couldn't crawl with the block in his hands. But he wanted to take it with him. What to do? He thought about it for a minute and then put the huge block in his mouth holding onto it with his teeth as he crawled across the room. Smart cookie.
